This week Pride Rock Productions brings you the inside scoop on the latest news in the Lisbon Community. You can expect to hear about boys track and field, the upcoming blood drive, tennis, Jazz Championships, and Health Day.
Boys Track and Field
Lisbon boys track and field placed 6th at Anamosa on Tuesday night. Some of the highlights included the following: sprint medley relay made up of Brett Givens, Blake Langhurst, Bailey Arwine, and Jack Butteris finished 4th with a season personal record of 1:36.41, Thatcher Krob finished 2nd in the 3200 with a personal record of 9:56.22, the 4×800 team made up of Payton Bahl, Cooper Siebrecht, Kaden Kilburg, and Jake Jennet finished 4th with a season personal record of 8:26.33, Jarrett Moehlman had a season personal record in the 100 wheelchair with a time of 32.6, Givens finished 3rd in long jump with a jump of 20’7.5, and Butteris finished 2nd in the open 200 with a time of 22.65. On Thursday, the Lions won their meet at Tipton. There were many great performances including the following: sprint medley relay of Langhurst, Derek Bova, Arwine, and Butteris finished 1st, Garrett Herring finished 2nd in the 3200, the 4×800 of Bahl, Kilburg, Jennet, and T. Krob finished 1st, Bova placed 3rd in the open 100, the distance medley placed 2nd which was made up of Bova, Givens, Arwine, and T. Krob, Butteris and Langhurst went 1st 2nd in the open 400, the 4×200 of Givens, Arwine, Bryce Hasselmann, and Langhurst finished 2nd, Butteris won the open 200, in the 800 Bahl placed 3rd, and T. Krob finished 2nd in the 1600. Whew was that a mouthful! Good job boys and keep up the good work!
On April 27th, Lisbon will be hosting a blood drive in the high school cafeteria. Donors can come from 2:45-6 and will receive a free snack! Donating blood can help save anywhere from 3-5 lives. If Lisbon can meet their goal, the school will receive $250 which will go towards increasing the school’s AED trainers. You can call Julie Light at 455-2659 ext 236, email bloodcenterimpact.org to sign up. Walk ins are also welcome! Help Lisbon reach their goal!
Wesly Benyshek interviewed Abbie Larson on the Mount Vernon-Lisbon tennis season. Larson said the season has been fun so far! There are three Lions on the team this year including Larson, Kasey Springsteen, and Makenzie Moreland.
On Tuesday April 4th, Lisbon Jazz Band loaded the bus for Ames to compete in the Jazz Championships. The Lions placed 8th out of 15 bands. Receiving honors were Katelyn Holets for Outstanding Solo Performance on the Alto Saxophone, Garrett Herring on the vibes, and Trey Holets on the trumpet. Congrats Lisbon Jazz Band!
Health Day is put on by the Lisbon High School Student Council each year. This year the day falls on Thursday, April 13th. It is a day where students focus on bettering their physical and mental health. This year activities will include a volleyball tournament, bike ride, yoga, and much much more. The students will also have speakers visiting them throughout the day to talk about the importance of physical and mental health.
