Welcome to the Pride Rock Blog. This semester we will be covering what is happening in the Lisbon Community School and so much more! Every week we will also be posting a video recap called the Weekly Roar. As a part of the Weekly Roar statements and pictures from the video will also be included in the blog post. As a heads up the class will also be posting other blog posts on the Pride Rock as a part of the class. This week we have covered the Tri Rivers Honor Band, basketball games, a wrestling meet, Conference Speech, and some of the upcoming events for next week!
Tri Rivers Honor Band
Unfortunately the Tri Rivers Honor Band, that was on Monday January 16th, was canceled due to weather and will not be rescheduled.
Next, the basketball teams also had a game on Tuesday against Alburnett. The varsity boys won and received a score of 78- 44. The leading scores were Brett Givens with 17 points, 6 assists, and 4 steals. Bailey Arwine had 14 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals. Blake Langhurst scored 10 points and 4 assists. Clay Hudson scored 10 points and 3 steals. The JV boys also won against Alburnett with a score of 46-34. The leading scorer for Lisbon was Keegan Brayton with 14 points. The next basketball game will be on January 24, 2017 at Maquoketa Valley.
On Thursday the girls basketball team traveled to Winfield Mt. Union and won the game. The final score was 49-41 in the lions favor and the leading scores were Ally Smith with 28 points and McKanna Nelson with 15 points. Way to go girls! The next home game will be on January 31, 2017 for both Varsity and JV.
Last Saturday our number-one-rated wrestling team had a tournament at Solon. The team got a score of 237.5 and 6 champions. With this score the team was able to beat the host team of Solon. The winning champions were Cobe Siebrecht 106, Cael Happel 113, Cooper Siebrecht 132, Chase McLaughlin 138, Jack Butteris 145, and Bryce Werderman 170. Finishing in 2nd was Logan O’Connor at 220 and finishing in 3rd was Ryne Mohrfeld 126 and Kaden Kilburg 152. The chosen wrestler of the week for week 9 is Bryce Werderman! Congrats to Bryce!
At the conference tournament the Lions finished 11-0, therefore beating Maquoketa Valley 60-12 and East Buchanan 56-11 on Thursday. This has been the 3rd straight year that Lisbon has won the Tri Rivers Dual meet championships. The following boys all have went 2-0 on Thursday night: Cobe Siebrecht, Cael Happel, Ryne Mohrfeld, Cooper Siebrecht, Chase McLaughlin, Kaden Kilburg, Clay McCoy, Bryce Werderman, Logan O’Connor, and Cody Howard. Way to go Lions! Their next tournament will be on Saturday January 21, 2017 at Clinton High School starting at 9am and the lions will be competing in 23 team tournaments.
On Saturday January 14, 2017, the Large Group Speech team traveled to East Buchanan for the Conference Speech competition. As a group they received the rewards of 9 Division I’s and 4 Division II’s. As a group they got 2nd place overall! As individual groups they got division ratings ranging from a IV-I. A division IV being the worst standing for a disqualification to a division I being the best.
This Saturday, January 21, 2017, they also had another competitions at Monticello. This competition is called Districts and depending on what division ratings they receive they will either move onto the State competition in two weeks or are done with the Large Group season.
The following groups will be advancing to state: Choral Reading “Mad World” with Ellie Larson, Kasey Springsteen, Abbie Larson, Alivia Woltman, Emily Davis, Katelyn Decious, Aubrey Streuber, Rachel Ross and Marie Morningstar. Ensemble Acting “Sure Thing” with Ellie Larson and Garrett Herring. Musical Theater “Seussical” with Garrett Herring, Abbie Larson, Chris Cannon, and Renae Hasselbusch. Group Mine “Channel Surfer” with Maddie Morningstar, Izzy Steele, Brayton Frey, Grace Clark, and Faith Venenga. Group Mime “The Little Athlete That Couldn’t” with Renae Hasselbusch, Sam Bennett, and Emma Howard. Solo Mime “Sorry, Dad” with Alivia Woltman. Solo Mime “Pet Shop Surprise” with Maddie Morningstar. Solo Mime “A Painter’s Problems” with Izzy Steele. Short Film “Divided” with Ally Smith, Silas Young, Sam Schrantz, Chris Cannon, Hayley Peters, Hannah Neymeyer, Emma Howard, and Grace Morningstar.
The following groups received a division two and will not be going to state: Group Improv with Katelyn Holets, Trey Holets, Cody Techau, Jordan Juett, and Emily Schultz. Ensemble Acting “They’re None of Them Perfect” with Hayley Peters, Bailey Svatosch, Natalie Ott, Faith Venenga and Grace Clark. Group Mime “A Sister’s Bond” with Natalie Ott, Bailey Svatosch, Emily Davis, Grace Morningstar, and Emma Bock. Musical Theater “Avenue Q” with Jordan Juett and Cody Techau. Short Film “Rise” with Trey Holets, Brayton Frey, and Aubrey Streuber.
The following group received a division three: Ensemble Acting “Oleanna” with Kasey Springsteen and Silas Young.
